When searching for a place to workout or “get in shape” at most of the questions that come to mind for people are:
How much does it cost?
Where is it located and is it convenient for me to get to?
Is it clean?
What can it offer me?
I don’t think most people ask; can this place save me during my darkest time?
Last winter I was about to find that out.
I had an event happen in my personal life that truly had me at rock bottom, and I was not sure how I was going to dig myself out, let alone keep my kiddos afloat. It was beyond a major curve ball and came from out of nowhere.
I don’t really remember a lot about my day to day life during this time, but I do remember that CampusCycle helped me stay strong and focused for my kids.
A moment when people have a hard time making themselves and working out a priority, I dug my heels in deep into the muck and trudge forward one pedal stroke at a time.
For weeks, during the holiday’s no less, I was forced to smile through the pain, question so many of the days prior to what took place and be strong for my family. I had to be the glue holding my family now more than ever before and I wasn’t sure I had that kind of strength in me. I was so mentally and ,at times, physically exhausted that staying in bed with the covers over my head seemed like the best solution. Not getting up at 4:15 AM to meet my friend in my driveway to go to spin class.
But my friend knew what I needed.
I needed a friend, one who would not judge, who would not ask too many questions, who would listen when I vented, and be a shoulder when I needed to cry. I also needed a friend who would remind me that taking 45 minutes a day for just me would not be seen as selfish but instead as MUCH needed. Those 45 minutes a day would end up being what truly saved me and helped me face each new day and find the strength I needed and wasn’t always so sure I had.
My class on the mic has become one that I hold dear and the playlist is a personal one. That’s the beauty (or one of them) about CampusCycle. The music…..it can heal you when you least expect it, it can relax you when you are pushing harder than you thought possible. It can light that fire in your soul that you thought had burned out. Every class I taught and rode in during this time had at least one song that helped me let go of the pain I was working through and helped break me through to the other side. Each class helped me get one step closer to healing, and each class still does.
Each day was a struggle. Some more than others, but each time I opened the doors to the studio I was greeted with a smile, sometimes a warm hug and I knew I was in the right place, and I was realizing this just may be why CampusCycle was brought to be a part of my life.
Having been through one of the worst experiences of my life but having a place like CampusCycle to help me get through is a blessing. Each time I have the privilege of being on the stage with the mic on I take a moment to reflect on my journey and I set intentions that I hope touch riders like I have been touched. I am not at CampusCycle to get a get booty or a six pack, we aren’t about those kinds of results. I am a part of CampusCycle to help others push through their hard times and remember their best times. They know no matter what is going on in their lives, they have a safe place to work through it.
I honestly don’t know what my days would have looked like without this safe haven. I don’t even try to envision them because it is not worth thinking about. Instead, I am thankful two friends had a vision to open a workout place unlike any place that has been seen before and that they have allowed me to be a part of it since day one! THANK YOU!!!!!
My message to anyone reading this, no matter how dark your days seem, no matter what the struggle, finding a safe place to focus on you for just a small part of your day is a game changer. I could have easily let my excuses win, but I knew for 45 minutes a day, I could unplug from all things and truly check out of all my responsibilities and work on me, and that my friends pulled me from the murky bottom.
If you have been saying “I will start…..” do it now. No time will ever be perfect, life’s circumstances will always be there. Start today and see what a life changing place CampusCycle can be for you and your family. It helped save me, I know it can do the same for you.
